ARP Fasteners - Saul's Shop Talk
A visit with the Kings of Bolts
by Saul Vargas (May, 2012)
This month we took a drive out to Santa Paula, California where we paid a visit with ARP Fasteners (Automotive Racing Products). ARP has been around for years and their products can be seen on some of today’s top built vehicles. This last SEMA had one of the best looking vehicles of the show; a 1973 Pontiac Firebird built by Detroit Speed. The build on this car was so clean it looked straight out of the factory, and upon closer look, we realized how they had gotten the build looking so perfect. They were using ARP bolts and fasteners.

by Linda Spencer (Feb., 2012)
A total of 150 SEMA Show exhibitors received international recognition for 257 new products released at the 2011 SEMA Show. Building a Simple Yet Powerful 1000HP Small Block Ford
by Mark Gearhart (Feb. 28, 2012)
1,000 horsepower, 91 octane, and reliability are all words that you normally don't hear together. But that is exactly what we are going for with our 427 cubic inch small block Ford destined for our '65 Mustang we call "Biting the Bullitt". Our goal with the project is to make an engine combination that is simple and easy to work on, while dropping right in between the frame rails of our Mustang. Also, this car is not a trailer queen and we need to be able to drive the car to and from the track with nothing more than a fire suit and helmet in the back seat.

All About Fasteners
by Bobby Kimbrough (Feb. 22, 2012)
Almost all metals are elastic and when flexed, bent or stretched, they try to return to their original shape. Knowing that metal is elastic is important to engine builders that deal with very tight tolerances between parts. If metal is elastic, and engine bolts are made of metal, you can correctly assume that engine bolts stretch as they are tightened.
We're going to take a look at how to correctly select, setup, and torque engine fasteners to control critical measurements and clearances within the engine. When it comes to fasteners, a little knowledge goes a long way to keeping engine failures to an absolute minimum.

Reliability Is Priceless: ARP and Ottoco
Jan 18, 2012
Performance parts like cylinder heads, camshafts and EFI get all the attention, but reliability is the cornerstone of a successful track day car. The easiest way to defeat yourself is by skimping on gaskets and hardware. A black flag or systems failure can ruin your session or your weekend. A common misconception is that OE-grade parts are always suitable for track day use. We hear it all the time: "These parts good enough for the street, so they must work on track." Or, "They were designed by Germans and the Germans have the Autobahn." In reality, OE manufacturers usually design parts for limited high rpm use—not multiple 20-minute sessions of peak rpm and high loads. Enthusiastic engineers are almost always tempered by overly cautious accountants. Thank goodness for the automotive aftermarket.
